‘Suicide Squad’ Director David Ayer & Star Margot Robbie Reunite For DC Movie ‘Gotham City Sirens’

Suicide Squad Margot Robbie

Because it worked so well the first time – and I am not being sarcastic about that – Suicide Squad director David Ayer and star Margot Robbie are reuniting for another DCEU project.

While a Harley Quinn film has been in the works since the big screen character was so well-received, the two won’t be returning for a Suicide Squad 2 – at least not yet. Instead the pair reunite for a film which will see Harley as part of yet another ensemble, but an all female one. The film is called Gotham City Sirens. Check out more on this story below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ayer will return to direct the film, and produce with Robbie. Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will also produce.

Despite the title, the film will apparently gather some of the top DC villains from the comic book universe together. Still, the fact that Gotham City is in the title implies that there will be more female members from Batman’s Rogue Gallery or maybe the entire line-up will be Batman’s villainesses. The Caped Crusader’s villainesses include Poison Ivy, a woman who has the ability to physically control plants and use their toxins to create hypnotic spores; Catwoman, a jewel thief who is often a love interest to the Bat; and Whisper A’Daire, a deadly assassin who possesses snake-like qualities. One thing is for sure, Robbie will reprise her role as Harley for the film. Any other characters are currently up for consideration or are just being speculated.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet will write the script. She has penned the scripts for the current Tomb Raider remake as well as the long-gestating Sherlock Holmes 3.

DCEU films currently have a reputation for having great concepts which are poorly executed. While they may have been blockbuster hits, audiences are slowly catching on that DCEU films are weaker than their biggest competition, Marvel. However, Wonder Woman might be the change they need to break that streak.

It’s great that WB and DC can ask Ayer and Robbie to come back for another DCEU film that isn’t a Suicide Squad sequel. And while I have no doubt that this has been under development, it makes me wonder what is going to happen to The Flash. It’s almost the end of the year, and the rumor is that The Flash is supposed to begin production sometime next year. With no director announced, it’s hard to believe that they will make the start date. However, because Suicide Squad was rushed, I find it even harder to believe that Gotham City Siren‘s will take its start date.

That being said, Gotham City Siren doesn’t have a start or release date. We will keep you posted on the development of the film.
