Last week on The Flash, the team sans Wally, Jesse, Iris, and Joe (Keiynan Lonsdale, Violett Beane, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin) rolled to Earth-2 to save Harry from Grodd (David Sobolov). It’s a trap! Grodd told Barry (Grant Gustin) he had to kill the Gorilla City leader, Solovar (Keith David), because of a plan to attack Earth-1. Barry fought and defeated (but didn’t kill) Solovar, and then Grodd revealed the real reason… Solovar was the one preventing Grodd from attacking Earth-1’s Central City. They all got locked up again, but Barry played dead via “frost.” When Grodd threw his body onto the trash heap, Barry warmed back up, and they all escaped back to Earth-1. Wally and Jesse grew closer, while Caitlin warned Julian (Danielle Panabaker, Tom Felton) away (he didn’t listen).

Spoilers below.

The Flash 3.14 “Attack on Central City” review: Barry is spoiling Iris, Jesse and Wally are happy, but apprehensive, and Harry can’t stand HR.

Harry: “Like the fact that I’m a genius and you’re a moron.” This is just the best thing ever. I’ve loved all versions of Harrison Wells (even the evil one), but having 2 at the same time is just TV gold, especially being the antithesis of each other.

It’s friends day from HR’s world. He decorated for it and gave everyone cards. That is really sweet. I did start off being really confused about this, thinking, “Did I miss the Valentine’s Day episode? Did they?”

Jesse and Wally break the news to Harry that she will be staying. He takes it surprisingly well, and they are surprised. Later Harry hints to Wally that he’s really sick, “but not to tell Jesse.” Wally does tell and she’s pissed because she knows it’s a trick. I was very pleased because even though Team Flash promised no more secrets, I absolutely did not think that anyone would stick to that. Wally is just a dear. Although my heart belongs to Cisco, it’s refreshing to see a character that is not the main hero be a good guy, and not boring. Lonsdale is just so endearing.

Cisco and Caitlin talk about love and Cisco’s lack thereof (I’m right here, Cisco!). At that exact moment Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) shows up and attacks. Harry knocks her out, and when she wakes up in the cage they all think she’s back to take HR home. But soon it is apparent that Grodd used her to make a breach to let his army through. Cisco tries to talk to her.

Gypsy: “You trying to Luke Starkiller me? (George Lucas’s original script had that as the name!!!!!).

Cisco vibes a location, so they all go and wait there until Grodd starts speaking through Joe. Barry saves Joe before he shoots himself in the head (scary!). Harry and Cisco figure out a way to extract Grodd’s visions from Joe. Joe draws a picture of the general that Grodd kidnapped and took over. The general is used to get into a nuclear facility.

Barry tells Iris he’s going to kill Grodd. He sees no other way to stop him once and for all. He gets a pep talk from her and from Harry, about “another way” and hope. Barry has gone down a really dark path this year, and who can blame him? He is FINALLY happy with the love of his life since childhood, and that is threatened by her impending death.

They cannot figure out Joe’s drawing, but HR comes through with his weirdly undefined unique talent. He remembers renowned poet Alfred Yankovic (weird Al!) from his earth. Grodd has set off missiles – the computer is analog so no way to hack in. Barry has to defuse the bomb speedily trying 90,000 different number combinations in 15 seconds. No sweat.

“Be the hero I know you wanna be.” They go get Solovar who challenged Grodd and won. Barry stopped him from giving the victory death blow, by promising to lock Grodd up. And the gorilla army went back to Earth-2. Then Harry went too, after appropriate overprotective dad threats to Wally.

Cisco and Gypsy say goodbye and she gives him a giant juicy kiss. “I’m gonna marry that woman.” So I know Cisco is mine, but I really want him to truly get together with Gypsy.

Barry proposes to Iris. One step closer to that future byline!

The end scene shows Wally going out for Belly burger and running into Savitar (Andre Tricoteux), horrified.

This episode was even better than last week. So many things crammed into this episode, and Grodd is just a “Kong”-y treat. I missed Felton this episode. He has just fit right in with this team, and I’m starting to see him as Julian now, more than Malfoy.

And come on… how cool and sexy does Cisco look in that header photo?

The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8:00pm ET on The CW.

  1. Can a general launch a nuclear missile on his own without obtaining complete authorisation?

  2. Probably not. But this is Flash. We have to completely suspend our belief in reality just to accept the multiverse.
