Little Nightmares #2

There’s still plenty of goodies from E3 2017 to share, but while we take a break from video games for a moment, it’s an excellent time to share a little bit of news related to…well, video games! It’s been announced that the recent indie hit Little Nightmares is now being turned into a television series.

The series is being developed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo along with DJ2 Entertainment, who is currently working on multiple video game adaptations such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Life is Strange. But perhaps most exciting about the potential TV series? Henry Selick, the director behind stop-motion favorites such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, is attached to direct the pilot episode and maybe more episodes after that.

Little Nightmares follows a young girl named Six, who is trying to make her way through The Maw, a hellish place filled with dangerous occupants such as The Janitor, a blind man with extremely long arms and extremely short legs who relies on hearing to locate and capture Six; The Twin Chefs, who handle all food preparation and have something to hide; the Guests, with their insatiable hunger; and The Lady, who oversees all.

Selick, while beloved for the work he has done, isn’t constantly setting up new things to direct. In addition to the movies above, the only other movies he’s directed are James and the Giant Peach and Monkeybone. Apart from that, he’s done some shorts and the Coraline video game. The last thing he directed was a Coraline segment for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards seven years ago, believe it or not. So his involvement in a Little Nightmares TV series is particularly exciting.

The Russo brothers are best known for directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War for Marvel. They’re currently in the process of directing Avengers: Infinity War for its 2018 release, and the currently untitled Avengers sequel scheduled for a 2019 release. Last year it was reported that the Russos were also set to adapt The Warriors into a TV series.

If you’re not familiar with Little Nightmares, you need only watch the trailer below to see why this is an exciting project. Click right here for our review of the game and more trailers and gameplay videos.
