Stargate has officially arrived at New York Comic Con, for the first time ever. In celebration of the fandom’s new digital platform and upcoming original series, Stargate Origins, the Stargate Command Lounge opened to fans at the convention. Geeks of Doom had an exclusive experience in the lounge and photo op, as well as a 1:1 demo at Command.

Sources say that Stargate Origins and the new platform, Stargate Command, truly celebrate and honor the spirit of all that has come before. A large section of the site (stargatecommand.co) is free and provides interactive content like quizzes, polls, photos, and editorial pieces. For a one-time fee of $20, members will have access to view all of the Stargate shows and films, as well as behind-the-scenes extras from Origins and a weekly director’s diary from Mercedes Bryce Morgan.

Stargate fans now have a place to come together and view amazing content like behind-the-scenes clips of the show as it’s being made, on-location scouting photos, and production updates. On the platform itself, approximately 2,000 forum discussions have been started and fans are sharing ideas, memes, and GIFs. Essentially, a decades-old fandom has officially entered the 21st century digital world, and fans are still incredibly passionate and eager to interact.

As for Origins, viewers will experience more than just the episodes. Content that would normally be released on DVD/Blu-Ray after a season has wrapped like blooper reels and behind-the-scenes footage will be available in advance of each week’s episode. Each episode of Origins will be about 10 minutes, and will center around the character who discovered the Stargate, Catherine Langford.

Fans have been pouring into the Stargate Command lounge at New York Comic-Con, with some so surprised and excited that it brought them to tears. The lounge provides a relaxing space to take some time away from the sensory overload that can occur at the con with soft couches and episode-viewing from SG-1 to Atlantis to Universe! Fans receive some Stargate swag and check out the digital platform before entering into the photo experience, where they walk right up the ramp in the Gate Room that is seen within the Cheyenne Mountain Complex primarily on SG-1.
