Westworld Season 2

Yesterday, Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy made a bold announcement. In order to stop Reddit users from guessing plot points for season 2, the two would release a video full of spoilers. The only catch was that it had to reach a certain amount of upvotes. Of course, how could the internet refuse such an offer? And as a result, Nolan and Joy had to follow through on their promise by releasing that “spoiler” filled video.

Scratch that, it’s not as much of a “spoiler” filled video as it is an elaborate prank.

Scratch that as well, it’s not as much of an elaborate prank as it is a Rickroll video. Check it out below. Oh and some minor spoilers will follow.

The video, which was posted by Singing Traveller047 because it was only available to Reddit gold members, opens with a Bernard (Jeffery Wright) narration voice over. Whether or not the new season really begins with him waking up on a beach, as we have seen in previous trailers, remains to be seen. He can’t remember what happened or how he got there, but it looks like this is taking place after Arnold’s programming allowed the hosts to become sentient. When he is picked up by Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) and he is taken to Karl Strand (Gustaf SkarsgÃ¥rd), the head of Delos security, who questions him about what happened.

It starts to look like Delos security is rounding up the hosts and executing them. However, Bernard is still confused as to what is happening. Soon it becomes a question of if he is not cooperating or if he simply does not remember. But an image sparks something, and the deeper he goes, he begins to understand what happened. That’s when we start to see Bernard on the same train that Teddy (James Marsden) wakes up in, and he is transported to Sweetwater. There he sees Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) – more on her later. That’s when his narration ends with “can he remember the choice he made?”

Soon the video cuts to Wood and Angela Sarafyan (who plays Clementine) playing a piano ballad of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Which seems fitting. Like Joy and Nolan were to actually going to release a spoiler-filled video. But if they were going to Rickroll us, they might as well do it in true Westworld style.

Now, you may have noticed that the video runs at 20-plus minutes. That’s because the rest of the video focuses on a beloved dog who is sitting in front of the piano, all the while the Westworld theme is playing on a loop.

Westworld season 2 debuts on HBO on April 22, 2018.
