The Girl in the Spider's Web Trailer

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released an official trailer for The Girl In The Spider’s Web, a follow-up to 2011’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Rooney Mara played Lisbeth Salander in the 2011 film, but is not reprising the role in the new movie. Stepping in to take on the role this time around is The Crown star Claire Foy. Directing this time around is Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead), who also penned the screenplay along with Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Peaky Blinders) and Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent). As we found out last year, Alvarez and Basu are also collaborating on a sequel to Jim Henson’s Labyrinth.

Continue below for the new trailer, as well as an international teaser trailer a poster.

SYNOPSIS:

Lisbeth Salander, the cult figure and title character of the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson, will return to the screen in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller. Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, the star of “The Crown,” will play the outcast vigilante defender under the direction of Fede Alvarez, the director of 2016’s breakout thriller Don’t Breathe; the screenplay adaptation is by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu.

Joining Foy on the cast is Sverrir Gudnason, Lakeith Stanfield, Sylvia Hoeks, Stephen Merchant, Claes Bang, Christopher Convery, Synnøve Macody Lund, and Vicky Krieps.

The original Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was followed by two sequels, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, all of which were adapted from author Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” series.

Fincher’s 2011 adaptation was also going to be followed by new takes on the two sequels, something he intended to do back-to-back, but that ultimately never happened. Instead, Sony eventually decided to adapt the fourth book in the series, The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

Larsson passed away before even the first of his original trilogy of books was published. He intended for the “Millennium” series to include ten books, and after he passed the publisher brought in another crime writer and journalist like Larsson, David Lagercrantz, to continue the series. His first contribution and the book being adapted for this latest film was released in 2015, and a fifth title in the series, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, was published last year.

The Girl In The Spider’s Web is set to be released in theaters on November 9th.
