Battle At Big Rock

Those who are fans of Jurassic World will be surprised to learn that director Colin Trevorrow has directed a live-action Jurassic World short film called Battle at Big Rock which is set to air on FX on September 15th.

The short will be set in the same world, and will see what things are like now after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. More on the report below.

The announcement was made on various social media platforms, seen below, with Trevorrow releasing the casting information via Twitter.

As the Facebook embed points out, “the short takes place one year after the events of the last film in Big Rock National Park, where dinosaurs are now living in our world. The story follows a family of four whose encounter with these wild animals becomes a terrifying fight for survival.” While this isn’t the first time that a dinosaur has been let loose in civilization, it is the first time that humans and the pre-historic beasts have to co-exist with each other. As the poster points out, there are center boundaries humans should not cross and rules they need to adhere to in order to stay alive.

I imagine that this is the kind of short that keeps the Jurassic World interest alive. Normally, these kind of shorts are reserved as a bonus feature for the Blu-ray releases. But it seems that the story is too good to be contained to that. Another theory is that the short could have been a subplot, since Emily CarmichaelJurassic World 3 with Trevorrow. But that is best left in the speculation pile.

This won’t be just any ordinary short. They are really bringing in some great creatives behind the camera. Larry Fong acts as the short’s cinematographer. His credits include Super 8 and Kong: Skull Island. Additionally, Amie Doherty of Undone and Here and Now will work on the music.

I haven’t been the biggest fan of the latest Jurassic World films, which seems to just rehash the original Jurassic Park films but with a much bigger budget and scale. That being said, maybe something smaller and more focused could convince me that the Jurassic World trilogy could end on a high note. We will just have to wait and see.
