BookCon 2018: Fred Van Lente interview

Earlier this month, Book Con 2018 arrived at the Javits Center in NYC. This book lover’s dream convention was not only filled with thousands of books from pretty much every publisher ever, but authors were present for panels, signings, photos, and my favorite… interviews.

Fred Van Lente, author of Ten Dead Comedians was there for Quirk Books, signing for his latest, The Con Artist. The Con Artist is set at a convention (of all places) where the lead character, Mike Mason, is suspect number 1 for his rival’s murder.

Check out my interview with the author here below.

I’ve often thought of myself as a plucky heroine, ready to stand by my man and hold my own, while we go on a dashing adventure. As a fan of both romance novels (what? I have layers…) and choose-your-own-adventure books, I feel that Quirk Books’ newest tome blends the best of both to give you multiple romantic entanglements.

So I was off to my romantic adventure in My Lady’s Choosing: An Interactive Romance Novel by Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris.

Contrary to the popular Disney belief, all princesses do not determinedly sing their troubles away, either the old-fashioned way of waiting for the prince or the new-fashioned way of saving themselves with a perfectly happy ending. Real princesses are fearless (or feared) leaders, fierce warriors, or women who just don’t give a damn what anyone thinks about them. And many of their stories do not end happily ever after. And thanks to Princesses Behaving Badly: Real Stories From History Without The Fairy-Tale Endings, we can learn more about these royal leaders.

Warning! Spoilers below for last night’s episode of Vikings!

The last episode of Vikings left Kattegat on the brink of war. With the moon comes Ivar (Alex Høgh) and King Harald (Peter Franzén) and Bishop Headmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), whose relationship with Ivar is completely complicated. Ivar seemed to look for another father in the Bishop, who promised no lies as that is the will of his god. Alfred (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) journeyed to find Athelstan’s past, and at the end of the episode said The Lord’s Prayer in unison with his late father. Astrid (Josefin Asplund) revealed she was pregnant. Harald was delighted, but she was sad, as the baby has a few possible fathers. Torvi (Georgia Hirst) freed Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) from fidelity. Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) and his followers found the land, but there was still dissent. Margrethe (Ida Nielsen) urged Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) to take the throne.

Spoilers below.
