Ron Howard and Paul Bettany On Han Solo Set

You have to hand it to Ron Howard for handling the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff as well as he is. For one thing, he is a bit more transparent, giving fans a look at everything that is going on behind the scenes, even he is releasing meaningless photos of craft food services. But for what it’s worth we are getting better looks at the set than we ever did before. But these reshoots have forced Michael K. William‘s character to be cut out of the entire film. While we knew he would have played “a half-human, half-animal” who was a “kick-ass character,” cutting his character seemed to indicate it wasn’t of major significance.

However, it appears that the character does hold some weight in the film. So much so that Howard turned to a reliable friend to act as William’s replacement. With a few caveats of course. That actor is a Beautiful Mind star Paul Bettany, whom you may know as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More on the story below.

Though the Star Wars spinoffs are meant to expand on the universe, they aren’t without problems. Director Josh Trank was let go from the now in limbo Boba Fett film, and Gareth Edwards‘s Rogue One had to go through extensive reshoots with the help of Tony Gilroy. Now comes Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired from their duty as directors of the still untitled Han Solo film over creative differences. The two were soon after replaced by Ron Howard. But it is why they were fired and the timing of it all that has many of us fascinated about what was going on behind the scenes. More on the story below.

Untitled Han Solo Movie Cast Photo

Yesterday, cam the shocking report that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were departing as directors of the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff. With only three weeks of production left on the schedule, the timing of their departure came into question. Although Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that it was due to creative differences, it seemed very odd that they would leave at such a critical juncture of the film.

Now there are new details. According to various reports, Lord and Miller were actually fired due to creative differences which stemmed from a conflict between Lawrence Kasdan, the film’s screenwriter. According to these reports, Lord and Miller’s comedic and improvisational style came into conflict with Kasdan’s by-the-script method – meaning what is on the page is what must be shot. Philip Lord and Chris Miller (Jump Street films and The LEGO Movie) will no longer be directing the untitled Han Solo Star Wars spinoff.

The two were named the directors of the spinoff back in July 2015, with Alden Ehrenreich taking on the iconic role just last year. That was followed by Donald Glover joining as Lando Calrissian, and Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge joining for other supporting roles. Donald Glover cast in Star Wars Han Solo movie

This deal is getting better all the time.

Back in August, we reported that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of the upcoming Star Wars Story spin-off that follows a young Han Solo (to be played by Alden Ehrenreich), were looking at Donald Glover, star of Community, Atlanta, and The Martian and the Grammy-winning rap artist known as Childish Gambino, for the role of Han’s fellow charming scoundrel Lando Calrissian.

Today, Lucasfilm has officially announced that Glover will indeed play Calrissian in the as-yet-untitled feature.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Now that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War have been released and made their respective impacts, the next highly-anticipated big screen blockbuster event of 2016 is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The first in a series of and prequels and spin-offs featuring characters and events integral to the evolution of the Star Wars universe, Rogue One tells the tale of the group of brave Rebellion soldiers who stole the plans to the Death Star that set in motion the narrative of Episode IV: A New Hope.

The first trailer premiered almost two months ago to an enthusiastic worldwide response. Executives at Disney are counting on Rogue One to bring in global box office grosses equal to or greater than those of last December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but according to a recent article by Page One’s Emily Smith, those same execs are less than thrilled with director Gareth Edwards after viewing his first cut of the film.

Star Wars Han Solo and Chewbacca Image

There are some things you can count on Han Solo having with him at all times: a vest, charm, wit, and of course let’s not forget his trusty blaster. The legendary Star Wars character will be getting his own film as a part of the Star Wars Anthology Films or what some may know right now as the Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film. Directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the solo film has yet to find a lead actor to play the pilot of the Millennium Falcon, “the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.”

Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) is the current frontrunner, with Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie The Eagle) also in consideration. Considering today is May 4, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, aside from the usual celebrations, there are a couple of teases that are being dropped here and there, and one of them has just been dropped on Twitter by Chris Miller, who posted an image of Solo’s signature weapon with an interesting hashtag. Check it out here below.
