Within today’s film landscape, there are many conventions. Be it remakes of recently released foreign films, major tentpole projects based on hit comic books, or darker takes on franchises we already know and love, Hollywood isn’t afraid to ride a trend until it’s bloody and beaten. Horror films are no different.

The current belle of the ball has to be “found footage” films, and while they mostly stick to basic haunted house pictures, it’s almost time that this trend heads to space.

Dimension has released the newest one sheet for their upcoming film Apollo 18, and while buzz surrounding the film hasn’t been great (a cavalcade of release date changes haven’t helped things much), this poster is definitely pretty. Back in November we were informed that The Weinstein Company had acquired the rights to a movie called Apollo 18, which would be produced by Timur Bekmambetov and directed by Trevor Cawood.

The movie is of the “found footage” variety, taking the canceled NASA mission to the moon and proposing that it did in fact happen but went horribly, horribly wrong. The footage that has been found from the mission show just wrong it went and why they tried to cover it all up at first.

You can see the first trailer and read a synopsis for Apollo 18 by clicking on over now.

It’s been officially announced that recently, at the Astana International Action Film Festival screenplay competition, The Weinstein Company acquired the rights to a movie called Apollo 18, written by Brian Miller.

The movie tells the story of NASA’s Apollo 18 mission to our moon, which was actually one of the many canceled missions in reality…or so we’ve been told. In the movie, the idea that the mission actually went ahead as planned is presented. It will be shot documentary style, to look as if it is proof of the mission actually happening and showing undiscovered footage from what the crew on that mission found, including “disturbing” proof of other life forms.
