Robert Pattinson

After Ben Affleck had a short stint as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, the actor hung up the cape and cowl for good, leaving Matt Reeves to look for another person to play the Dark Knight in the next standalone film, The Batman.

Now there are some conflicting reports on who might be up for the role. One report is saying that Twilight, Cosmopolis, and Maps to the Stars actor Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to become the new Batman in the superhero detective noir film, while another report says that Pattinson is on the shortlist alongside Mad Max: Fury Road actor Nicholas Hoult. More on this below.

Ben Affleck As Batman With Zack Snyder

Zack Snyder made a few visually stunning comic book film adaptations before he was brought in to helm the DC Extended Universe. Once there, he brought a darker and more brooding tone to the DCEU, which was a stark contrast to the lighter and funnier Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though this darker superhero universe had its fan base, it never could achieve the same level of success as the MCU. And it didn’t help that there were those who were opposed to Snyder’s interpretation of these beloved characters, many of whom went against their codes or just against the source material in general.

Case in point, Batman. Then played by Ben Affleck, the DCEU’s version saw Batman kill. Something of which he has done before, whether that was freely, inadvertently, or something that could be debated. But the Dark Knight is perhaps known for his no kill policy. It is a policy that Snyder doesn’t care about. In fact, he has one thing to say to you if you don’t like his Batman killing: “Wake the fuck up.” More on the report below.

Batman v Superman Ben Affleck Bat Signal

Batman may be known as “The World’s Greatest Detective,” but the cinematic iterations of the character have failed to live up to that moniker. However, The Batman director Matt Reeves wants to change all of that by giving us “a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale.”

Though this project has been in development for a long time, these new details prove that they are taking their time to shape the upcoming film into something worth waiting for. More on the report below.

Batman

Writer and director Matt Reeves‘ standalone Batman film has finally been given a release date. And it will feature a brand new Batman. At least, that’s what it looks like.

According to new reports, The Batman will hit theaters in summer 2021. However, Ben Affleck will not be there to don the cape and cowl, something he has done since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. More on the report below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The original plan for Justice League was to release it in two parts. However, plans for that fell through, and Zack Snyder ended up directing it, with the help of Joss Whedon, as one film.

It’s unclear what a two-part Justice League would have looked like, but we are getting a better picture of what would have happened to some of the characters. Snyder took to social media to reveal that he would have killed Batman (Ben Affleck) in the Justice League sequel. More on the story below.

Rumor: Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Could Be A Reboot and Move On Without Ben Affleck

Batman v Superman Ben Affleck Bat Signal

It wouldn’t be The Batman without the rumor mill churning out another rumor about it being Ben Affleck‘s last DCEU film. Rumors of the actor trying to find a graceful exit have been floating around since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to meet expectations. But the actor stuck to his film commitments, and if we are to believe the rumors, he wants out any way possible.

So, one way was The Batman, a Batman standalone that he was supposed to write and direct. While he wasn’t able to crack that script, the film could still be used as an outlet for his exit. Now there are reports that the film could just be rebooted entirely, and without Affleck. More on the story below.

The thing about SXSW is that it makes you superhumanly exhausted. It’s why DC probably pulled out all the stops with its presence at the event this year, including showing up with Batman’s signature ride(s), a sneak peek at Syfy’s upcoming Superman prequel series, free coffee (because of course), and so much more. Check out details from the event here below.

Here We Go Again, Ben Affleck Considering A Graceful Departure From Playing Batman

Batman v Superman Ben Affleck Bat Signal

So the ongoing saga of whether or not Ben Affleck will continue to play Batman after Justice League continues. This has been pretty much a thing since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to live up to expectations. Affleck has gone on record saying he doesn’t want to play as Batman anymore, only to pull a 180 just days – sometimes hours later – and say he is committed to the role for the foreseeable future. The actor has played The Batman three times so far: once in Batman v Superman, another in Suicide Squad, and a third coming up in this week’s Justice League.

But it appears that Affleck has grown tired of the superhero world and is setting his sights on hanging up the cape for good. However, unlike previous attempts to exit the DCEU, the actor is now reportedly looking for a “graceful and cool way to segue out of it.” More on the story below.

Batman: White Knight #1 review

Batman: White Knight #1
Batman created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger
Script, art, covers by Sean Murphy
Colors and cover colors by Matt Hollingsworth
Letters by Todd Klein
Asst. Editor: Maggie Howell
Editor: Mark Doyle
DC Comics
Release date: October 4, 2017
Price: $3.99

First, I’ll state the obvious: Batman: White Knight #1 looks spectacular.

Sean Murphy‘s style is tailor made for Gotham City and its inhabitants. In the action-adventure series Chrononauts, he showed his range, packing each frame with so much kinetic energy it burst at the seams — but it’s in the shadows where Murphy shines brightest. He was born to illustrate Batman.

At the moment there are a handful of artists at the top of the food chain — Adam Hughes, Greg Capullo, Rafael Albuquerque — and Murphy is among the very best. Not to be overlooked, Matt Hollingsworth adds a pitch-perfect color palate to offset Murphy’s darkness, and the results are stunning.
