Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, premieres on FOX tonight, Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 9pm ET/PT. You can check out a sneak peek video of the episode here below, which includes interview clips from Tyson as well as executive producer Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy).

This first hour-long episode, titled “Standing Up in the Milky Way,” marks the launch of a new 13-part series and aims to reboot Carl Sagan’s original 1980’s series, Cosmos: A Personal Journey, for 21st century audiences.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

The first trailer for Fox’s reboot of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos was shown off at San Diego Comic-Con, and you can watch it here now.

The reboot, officially titled Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, is a 13-part documentary series hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and produced by Family Guy and American Dad! creator Seth MacFarlane.

It’s been a couple of years now since we first heard that an updated version of the Carl Sagan documentary series Cosmos was on the way, and that it was being produced by Family Guy and American Dad! creator Seth MacFarlane, and hosted by astrophysicist rock star Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Now comes word that we’ll finally get to watch the new 13-episode updated Cosmos sometime in 2014 when it’s aired on Fox. No official premiere date has been announced as of yet.

Yes, because when the world thinks of Carl Sagan and his beloved series The Cosmos, it thinks of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.

Joking aside, THR is reporting that Fox along with The National Geographic Channel have signed up to team-up with the funny man on a new series entitled Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey.

The series will run as a 13-part documentary series, and will find MacFarlane aboard, along with Sagan’s widow, Ann Druyan, and astrophysicist Steven Soter. The kicker here is that it will be hosted by the brilliant astrophysicist (and frequent guest on The Daily Show, where is likely best remembered from) Neil deGrasse Tyson.
