Deadpool 2 Teaser: Ryan Reynolds As Bob Ross

Yes, Disney has bought 21st Century Fox. So most of their entertainment assets will belong to the mouse. That means that X-Men and Fantastic Four can now play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sandbox. Whether or not they will remains to be seen.

But for those who were worried that Disney would tone down some of the more adult comic movies such as Deadpool, you can relax. Disney CEO Bob Iger says he intends to keep Deadpool as an R-rated movie. More on what he had to say about that and the future of rated-R Marvel movies below.

Deadpool

We’ve been hearing whispers that the mega-deal between The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox could happen as soon as Thursday, and this morning it became official: Disney has purchased Fox for around $52.4 billion. Disney is also inheriting around $13.7 billion of debt, making the total cost of the deal about $66 billion. In the deal Disney is acquiring all entertainment properties and more, while the Fox Broadcasting news and sports assets will be spun off to shareholders under a new company.

On the entertainment side of things, this now means Disney owns and controls all of Fox’s brands and titles including the X-Men and Deadpool franchises, the Avatar movies, the original Star Wars trilogy, The Simpsons and other Fox shows as well as all of the FX Network series, and even Fox’s stake in Hulu, which now gives Disney controlling interest in the streaming service (making their own planned streaming service even more interesting).

You can find more details below.

Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Title Card

It’s the time of the season, and what better way to celebrate that time than to have images promoting a Christmas movie. Of course, there are many remakes and reboots of classic Christmas movies. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that Disney has released the first images for a new vision of The Nutcracker. Disney’s take will be called The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Directed by Lasse Hallström, the film will be based on an adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 German fairy tale, which was turned into a ballet by Tchaikovsky.

Now we are getting a first look at the film, which is due to hit theaters late next year. Check out the first two images here below.

The Little Mermaid

Disney is not going to stop with the live-action adaptations of their animated classics. Not as long as films like Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast keep making the box office gold that they are making. With films like Dumbo, Aladdin, Mulan, and The Lion King currently in the works, the studio is continuing to go through their vault of award-winning animated films and pairing them with an almost perfect creative team. Case in point, The Little Mermaid, which will have new songs by Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken.

We reported on the film when it first broke in August of last year, and now there are new reports saying that the live-action film is looking to land Rob Marshall as director. More on the story below.

X-Men and Avengers crossover

It has been a few weeks since we first heard about the possibility of The Walt Disney Company acquiring 20th Century Fox. Though details were slim, if Disney were to buy Fox it would mean that the studio would acquire their entertainment division, which includes film properties, TV properties, Nat Geo, and more.

At first, it appeared that there was a fallout between the two when the then-rumored deal leaked. However, talks started again, and much of the deal remained the same with Fox continuing to retain their sports and news media outlets. Now the deal that looked like it would take months to complete could be done as soon as next week. More on the story below.

Avengers and X-Men

When there was word that Disney was entertaining the idea of buying out the 20th Century Fox film and TV properties, fans got excited at the idea that X-Men and Fantastic Four could finally come into the MCU fold. Avatar land made more sense, too. And the idea that Disney could possibly release more mature material under the Fox banner became a possibility. But as soon as that news broke, the deal was off.

Now it appears that the deal may not be as dead as we first thought. There are reports that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner is becoming one of the key players to make this deal happen. More on the story below.

Snoke Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) is a powerful figure in the current Star Wars saga without having to display much power at all. When we first saw him in The Force Awakens, he was all but a holographic figure that displayed him as a scarred man dropped in a robe. General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) often consulted with him to figure out their next plan of attack.

While he was larger than life as a hologram, new images have shown him to be real and very imposing. And now, we’re learning just how powerful he really is and why the man looks so tortured. Check out the full story and the images below.

John Lasseter

The wave of sexual assault allegations continues to flow in, and people who were once highly respected by their peers are turning out to be creeps and perpetrators. Among those people are Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Brett Ratner, and Louis C.K., all of whom have lost a great deal in the weeks since they’ve been outed.

Now, John Lasseter, the CCO of Pixar and head of Disney Animation Studios, is stepping away from his responsibilities and going on a six-month leave of absence in order to address some of the serious “missteps” he has taken throughout his career. More on the story below.

Star Wars The Last Jedi Finn vs Captain Phasma

Recent Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailers have been vague on the details of the plot of Rian Johnson’s latest film. Though we got a sense that Rey (Daisy Ridley) was on her way to becoming a Jedi, despite Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) reluctance and general pessimistic outlook for the Jedi Order, Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Issac) journeys were just beginning. Now with the release of the film less than a month away, we can expect to see more from Star Wars: The Last Jedi in the form of TV spots. Just don’t expect them to reveal anything too spoilery. Even the TV spots are keeping some of the characters in the dark, as the latest one has Finn asking Poe what happened to Rey.
