Community

I’ve made it clear in the past that in recent months Community has become one of my absolute favorite television comedies of all time. So as I and millions of fans of the show around the world anxiously await its still-undated return it’s time that we take stock of Community‘s limitless supply of awesomeness and how it can be applied to other geek-related properties.

We’ve seen the Community‘s cast of characters depicted in fan artwork as Batman villains and the Avengers. Now artist Aviv Or has outdone them all with his vision of Greendale Community College’s finest study group as Marvel Comics’ uncanny team of super-powered mutants, the X-Men.

You can check out a full gallery of Or’s artwork here below.

Check Out Marvel’s November Teaserama

Culturesmash   |

Thor: The Deviant SagaOften Marvel Comics loves to tease us with just cover art or images for upcoming new comics or new story arcs in existing comics. November seems to be a huge month for the House of Ideas, so they’ve been sending a bevy of cover art images to us again with no description, just the image. There are of course new story arcs, particularly in Thor, but there are also some new interesting looking limited books most particularly a new Magneto book and a new Doctor Doom series. There’s also an Uncanny X-Men number #1 and a new Thor limited series to watch for.

In our continued efforts here at Geeks of Doom to share the pleasure and the pain we have for you a gallery of images from Marvel’s major releases. Take pleasure in the great art and potentially exciting new stories and feel the pain of the wait until the books release in November! Sure it’s a short wait, but some of this stuff looks great! Never let it be said that we aren’t generous here at Geeks of Doom! Check out the images below and let us know which comics look most interesting to you!

New ‘X-Men: First Class’ Posters Hit The Web and Fans Weep

So the buzz on X-Men First Class has been fairly good leading up to a solid teaser trailer. Mathew Vaughn brought us the fantastic gangster flick Layer Cake and followed that with the highly under-appreciated Kick Ass, so he seemed a perfect pick for the director’s chair. Bryan Singer gave us one great X-Men film and one OK one, so having him as a producer is a positive. Fans of Mad Men were even happy to see January Jones taking on the role of Emma Frost. It’s all good right?

Well thank you 20th Century Fox for bursting out X-shaped bubble. New posters for the film have been released and they are pretty awful. There’s also some international posters, which are much better at introducing us to these characters. See all the new posters here below.

‘Inglourious Basterd’ Michael Fassbender To Play Magneto In ‘X-Men: First Class’

The Movie God   |  @   |
space

Not too long after finding out that Wanted and Atonement star James McAvoy would be taking on the younger version of Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier role in X-Men: First Class, words came around that Michael Fassbender might just be playing Magneto.

The delay with that casting was that the actor had to choose between Magneto — played so very well by Ian McKellen in Bryan Singer’s X-Men and X2: X-Men United — and playing one of the villains in Sony’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. It’s unknown which villain he might of played, but many suspect it would have been the Lizard.

According to reports, Fassbender appears to have chosen to side with X-Men. The actor has entered into negotiations to play the role, which will see him becoming the younger Magneto when he was very close with McAvoy’s Professor X character. The story will revolve around this aspect of their relationship, when their views pushed them apart, and Xavier’s development of his school for gifted mutants.

Professor X & Magneto

Matthew Vaughn went above and beyond the call of duty to get Kick-Ass made when studios wanted nothing to do with such controversial content. After proving how appealing it was to younger audiences, the director’s passion and drive is paying off with a big new gig.

20th Century Fox has tapped Vaughn to direct X-Men: First Class, the project that originally had Bryan Singer attached to return to the world of mutants. The movie will be based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name, which takes place in the earlier years of Professor Xavier’s school for the gifted and when some of your favorite mutants were first coming to be.

The Current Status Of The Many ‘X-Men’ Related Film Projects; Magneto Dead? New Deadpool?

Deadpool

Lauren Shuler Donner is a producer on all things X-Men related, past and future. While at a junket for the X-Men Origins: Wolverine Blu-ray, Empire Magazine was able to talk to Donner and dig up a treasure chest of updates on all of the big projects that are currently piled up on the stove top, including X-Men Origins: Magneto, Deadpool, X-Men: First Class, and of course, the Wolverine sequel that’s being developed.

The first chunk of information comes from Wolverine. Donner explains that this is the furthest along in its production, and that it will likely be the next film released from that world. The sequel will see Wolverine heading to Japan for his Samurai storyline, and she explains that to be as faithful as possible, filming will actually be done in Japan, and they’re even planning on working with Fox’s division in Japan so they don’t do or say anything ignorant to the culture, which is obviously a very smart move.

Click over for much, much more, as well as quotes on all of the projects.
