Snowpiercer Roundtable Interview

New York Comic-Con welcomed the cast and creator of TNT’s new Snowpiercer series to the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday afternoon. Back in 2013, revolutionary South Korean director Joon-ho Bong (Okja, Parasite) translated acclaimed French graphic novel Le Transperceneige into a groundbreaking post-apocalyptic adventure film starring Chris Evans. From that, Graeme Manson (Cube, Orphan Black) created the new TV series, which will debut on TNT in the Spring of 2020. The story of a globe-spanning train with 1001 cars carrying the remainder of humanity after a climate-change disaster is rife with socio-political and class commentary and deals with many issues facing the world of today.

Snowpiercer

San Diego Comic-Con is the perfect place to reveal the first trailer for the TBS adaptation of Snowpiercer, based on Bong Joon-ho‘s 2014 sci-fi film – which happens to be an adaptation of the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.

Snowpiercer is set years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and centers on the last of humanity, who inhabit a train which has over 1,000 cars and never stops. It stars Hamilton‘s Daveed Diggs as the series protagonist, who will lead his fellow tail car passengers in a revolt against the high-class front car passengers. Check out the trailer below.

It was three and a half years ago now that we found out that a TV series based on the Bong Joon-ho movie Snowpiercer could be on the way. That TV show has traveled a slow road since then. A couple of years back we found out that the series would star Daveed Diggs and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly. Last year we found out that TNT had given the show a full series order.

Now the Snowpiercer adaptation has a new home, moving from TNT to sister channel TBS, and has been given a second season. One whole year before its debut season even premieres.

Snowpiercer Train

A couple of years back we found out that a TV series based on Snowpiercer, the English-language debut of OKJA director Bong Joon Ho, might be on the way.

TNT has since ordered a pilot episode for the potential show, and the cast is beginning to take shape. The first actor cast was Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Black-ish), and now Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly has come aboard for one of her rare TV roles.

If you loved Bong Joon Ho‘s English-language debut Snowpiercer that was on many year-end favorites lists, including the lists of some of Geeks of Doom’s own contributors, more stories set in that world might be on the way.

It’s being reported that the rights to the film have been optioned, with the intention of adapting it into a new TV series. Marty Adelstein‘s Tomorrow Studios optioned the rights to adapt the movie into a new show, and Josh Friedman has been set to write the script.

This is Spinal Tap

Hey there freaks and geeks, BAADASSSSS! is here with a list of the best films I saw in 2014. Instead of doing the traditional top ten list as originally planned, I decided to take a cue from the great Nigel Tufnel and crank this sucker up to 11 (yes, I am aware that some people are doing top 20 lists, top 50 lists, top 100 lists, etc., but I didn’t see enough of last year’s releases to make a list quite that long). So you will find on this list my ten favorite films that were released last year, one that wasn’t, and my three choices for the worst of the year. And the hell with round numbers.

Jodorowsky's Dune Banner

I was initially apprehensive about creating a “best of” movie list for 2014, because upon review, it was easier to make a list of all the critically acclaimed movies I didn’t get a chance to see than did. In fact, here’s that list now: Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Only Lovers Left Alive, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Whiplash, Selma, Ida, Goodbye to Language, The Babadook, and Inherent Vice.

So with the caveat that the best films of the year (and possibly your favorites) may still yet to be seen by me, here is a list of the best films I did see this past year.

Mike's Top 15 Films of 2014

Now that 2014 is over, we are left with deciding which movies were the best of the year. Contrary to to what the box office says, 2014 was a pretty amazing year in film. But as I look back at the 100 or so films that I have seen in the past year, the following 15 films are the ones that I have seen repeatedly, could not stop talking about, or have had the biggest impact one me. Of course this is a subjective list, as there are plenty of other films that I have and have not seen that are or could be better, but honestly, these 15 left the biggest impact on me. I’ll also throw in a couple of honorable mentions. Hit the jump to check it out.

Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy

Now that 2014 has come to a close, it’s time to look back on the films that were released during the year, so here below is a list of my favorite movies of 2014. Now, I’m not saying these are the “best” movies of the year, just that these are my favorites. I see a lot of movies each year, but admittedly most of these are viewed on home video. Most of the ones that I selected as my favorites of 2014 were films that I had been anticipating and that I did make a point to watch in the theater, sometimes even more than once. Since many of my selections are already out now on home video, I’ve gotten to watch them several times. And, for someone like me, if I want to repeatedly watch a movie, then that’s a likely candidate to make it to the top of my list of favorites for the year.

With that, here’s a list of my Favorite Movies of 2014.
