Chris Hemsworth in Star Trek

There may not be any engaging happening in Star Trek 4 for franchise stars Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth. The two actors, the former of whom is a headline star in the J.J. Abrams rebooted Trek universe, have reportedly exited negotiations over a salary dispute.

Plans for a fourth film have been in the works since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, where it was announced that Hemsworth would be back. While there have been some positive signs that the film was going in the right direction, this latest development puts the entire sequel in question. More on the story here below.

Star Trek Logo CBS

Oh, you didn’t think Quentin Tarantino pitching an idea for a new Star Trek movie to J.J. Abrams that he might end up directing couldn’t get any stranger? Sit with me for a moment, my friends. Here, I made you some nice cocoa. Marshmallows are there on the table if you like. Careful now, it’s a bit hot.

Everything about this was unexpected, of course. But one of the things that made it especially surprising was the part about Tarantino possibly directing. Not only has he never made a big blockbuster type movie—he’s only made eight movies total with a ninth on the way, and there’s been whispers of him potentially retiring from filmmaking after his 10th—but each and every one of his films has been R-rated. Star Trek movies, as you’re likely aware, are not R-rated.

But never fear, Tarantino fans. As it turns out, even Star Trek is R-rated when it comes from Quentin. In fact, it was one of his requirements.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

A good “is it April Fools’ Day already?” story is always fun, and this one is a doozie. It’s being reported that Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill writer and director Quentin Tarantino has come up with what’s described simply as “a great idea” for a new Star Trek movie, and he has pitched that idea to producer J.J. Abrams, who directed a reboot of the Trek cinematic franchise in 2009 and a sequel in 2013.

If that’s not unbelievable enough for you, it gets even crazier. The report says that if all goes well, Tarantino could even end up directing this new Star Trek movie.
