William Shatner Gorn Rematch For Star Trek: The Video Game

Last year, we posted an image from the upcoming Star Trek: The Video Game revealing what the Gorn would look like in the game, which will be available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and for Download starting April 23, 2013. The Gorn species was introduced in the original Star Trek episode “Arena” and has since become a fan favorite.

In the 1967 episode, Captain James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner, is forced to battle the Gorn captain to the death. Now, in a new video created to promote the upcoming video game, Shatner has a rematch with the Gorn, reenacting their classic melee.

Watch the video here below! Also embedded below is the original Kirk vs. Gorn scene from “Arena.”

The Star Trek: The Next Generation: Hive trade paperback collects the hit IDW mini-series from 2012, written by legendary Star Trek writer/producer Brannon Braga.

Script writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett take story writer Brannon Braga’s concept and carve together a passable script. What the big problem is, is that Braga tries to tell THE definitive Star Trek: The Next Generation story here, but it feels more like an expanded episode of the TV series. In short, The Borg has launched and finally taken over the Alpha Quadrant. All that stands between them and total domination is, of course, Jean-Luc Picard. Picard comes up with a plan to finish The Borg once and for all, but he needs help from another former Borg, Seven of Nine. Will they succeed? I think you know the really predictable answer to that.

Happy Birthday Leonard Nimoy!

Leonard Nimoy

Today is the birthday of Leonard Nimoy, the actor and science-fiction legend who is best remembered for playing the Vulcan character Spock on Star Trek, which remains one of television’s biggest cult and mainstream successes of all time.

Nimoy played a character in Spock which perfectly bounced off of Captain James T. Kirk, the equally memorable character on the show played by William Shatner, and the two men were like a intergalactic Lennon/McCartney in a metaphoric sense and even like a sci-fi version of The Odd Couple sometimes; the cool, emotionless, logical demeanor of Nimoy’s Spock bouncing Saturn-like rings around the emotional, zealous, and passionate fervor of Kirk. The two characters formed a mutual admiration society with each other, regardless of their perceptions of the other’s foibles and shortcomings, and successfully navigated their way through endless adventures, as the famous catchphrase goes, “seeking out new civilizations and boldly going where no man has gone before.”

Star Trek Into Darkness

An international trailer has been released for Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams‘ follow-up to his 2009 reboot Star Trek, and it’s a dark one!

You can watch the new teaser trailer here below.

See now, for the U.S., we get all the campy stuff and fast cut-away action; oversees, they get the dark scifi drama version for the film, which sees Kirk and his crew of the Enterprise on a mission to stop Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious character, John Harrison. In the international trailer, we learn more about Harrison, who everyone speculates will end up really being the famed villain Khan (think Marion Cotillard’s character in The Dark Knight Rises).
