The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Directed by Matt Shakman
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson
Marvel Studios
Release date: July 25, 2025 Non-spoiler first thoughts (mostly written in the car on the way home from the movie theater) on The Fantastic Four: First Steps: Marvel Studios churned out an enjoyable film that does justice to these classic characters, making them all likable and competent. I love the film’s retro-futuristic look (not a cell phone in sight) and color scheme. While this is the “first steps,” it’s not an origin story, with the groups’ superpowered circumstances summed up quickly at the start on the team’s anniversary. This allows the danger to present right away and the action to get going fast.

Release Date: October 11, 2016 (VOD) | December 20, 2016 (DVD) In 1986, German film producer Bernd Eichinger (The Neverending Story) purchased the motion picture rights to Marvel Comics’ first family of bickering cosmic superheroes, the Fantastic Four. Eichinger envisioned making a classy, big-budget adventure with funding from a major studio and the latest in cutting edge visual effects, but no studio was interested. He had until New Year’s Eve 1992 to get the film into production or his rights would revert back to Marvel.

| ‘Fantastic Four’ Trailer: Doctor Doom Has A New Look
This weekend saw three major trailers drop: first there was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was then followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And now comes one for Fantastic Four. Oddly enough, director Josh Trank was supposed to make an appearance on the final day of Star Wars Celebration to talk about his secret spinoff film, but attendees were told he fell ill, and could not make it. Now we can’t be certain if this is true, but a trailer dropping on the same day he was scheduled to make an appearance is quite suspect. Whatever the reason, we are getting a brand new trailer for Fantastic Four, which gives us a little more backstory on our four heroes — Mr. Fantastic (Miles Teller), Invisible Woman (Kate Mara), Human Torch (Michael B. Jordan), and The Thing (Jamie Bell) — as well as the villain, Doctor Doom (Tobey Kebbell). Hit the jump to check it out.
