Oscars 2018: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Now that the Academy Award nominations have been announced, it’s time to take a look at some of the biggest surprises and of course the biggest snubs for this year’s Oscars. The Shape Of Water led the pack with 13 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Dunkirk got eight, and while a lot of it was on the technical aspects of the film, it did help Christopher Nolan score his first nomination for Best Director. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri came behind with 7, including Best Actress and two for Best Supporting Actor. So you get the gist.

But there were some things that just got flat-out snubbed, along with a few surprises as well. Check out some of these here below…

The Shape of Water, starring Sally Hawkins Producers Guild nominee

Following the release of the nominees for the 2018 Writers Guild Of America Awards, come the nominations for the 2018 Producers Guild Awards. The Big Sick, The Shape Of Water, Get Out, The Post, and Lady Bird are among the biggest names to earn nods, as well as some awards favorites like I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

However, films like Phantom Thread, The Florida Project, and Logan appear to have been snubbed. But Wonder Woman is continuing to prove that well-crafted comic book films can also be award-contending films. Check out the full list of nominees here below.

Holiday Blu-ray Gift Guide 2017

Ladies and gentlemen, that sainted time of year is once again upon us. Stuffed to the eyeballs with carbohydrate-loaded food, we suck in our guts, put on our finest ensemble of pajama pants and Crocs, and venture out to the nearest mall/shopping center/big box retailer/gas station/roadside flea market to secure gifts for the ones we love. Meanwhile, the ones we tolerate will simply have to suffice with “A Tree Has Been Planted In Your Name” certificates and that fruitcake your grandfather accidentally sat on during Sunday dinner.

As we do every time around this time, Geeks Of Doom has provided for you a comprehensive guide to the finest films and TV series released to DVD and Blu-ray in 2017 (if you’re holding out for laserdisc or Betamax editions of these titles, I both pity and respect you) for you and yours to enjoy for generations to come.

Check out this year’s Holiday Geek Gift Guide: Blu-ray & DVD Edition

Yondu and Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

So far, 2017 has been yet another interesting year at the movies – plenty of record-smashing blockbusters, even more embarrassing flops and failed franchise starters, and some unique indies that always tend to fly under the radar. We still have a few more months to go and lots more to watch, both on the big screen, the small screen, and the even smaller screens of our desktops and laptops. The ride has yet to begin, I fear.

Submitted for your approval, here are the top 10 best films I’ve seen to date this year. I still have many more to catch up, so good thing I have several streaming options that are really worth the money.

It wasn’t that long ago when The LEGO Movie burst into movie theaters with a million of bricks and an equal amount of laughs. What looked liked a bad idea at first turned out to be interlocking blocks of bubble gum pop and child-like nostalgia. Its success would, of course, give way for sequels and spinoffs, because that’s how successful movies work nowadays. And now we are getting a taste of that with The LEGO Batman Movie.

Sure enough, The LEGO Batman Movie proves that its predecessor was no fluke. It continues the tradition of capturing the child-like imagination of playing with these building blocks to construct a manically energized spinoff full of hilarious Batman references and self-deprecating humor. But it is also a visual bubble gum pop joy that has a heartfelt message and crazy action that can be damn near exhausting.

But at the end of the day, The LEGO Batman Movie is a pure delight that even non-Batman fans will enjoy. Check out the full review below.
