The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The stories of Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, from The Witcher are perhaps best known from developer CD Projekt RED’s video game series, which includes 2007’s The Witcher, 2011’s The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, and 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

But the games are actually based on Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski‘s short stories and novels, which are now set to be adapted into a new feature-length movie currently expected to be released in 2017. It’s been announced that Platige Films has joined forces with the Sean Daniel Company for the movie, which is being planned as the first in a series of movies.

Welcome, my friends, to the dark and deadly world of Geralt. Known as a Witcher, he hunts and kills monsters as a profession. Based on the highly successful stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher #1 is the first in a five-part mini-series from Dark Horse Comics. There are even a series of video games, a movie, and a television series in this franchise, but we are here to talk about the new comic series so let me get back on track.

Our story opens with a lone huntsman, Jakob, fishing for his dinner when Geralt rides into his camp. Making a bit of small talk and sharing food and drink, the hunter is startled when the Witcher jumps into the river and slays a monster with ease. Settling in for the night, Jakob tells Geralt the story of how he “sort of” became a widower. It seems Jakob and his wife Marta were traveling when they were attacked by a marauding band of evil creatures. And while his wife was taken from him, she never quite left him. Sometimes sensing her near, he has no fear. Though he is definitely haunted by the loss of his wife for whom he cares so much.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Another big game is getting pushed back. Developer CD Projekt RED has announced that their third installment in the Witcher franchise, titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will no longer be released in the fall of 2014.

Instead the game will now be released in February of 2015, meaning fans of the series that have been anxiously awaiting its release now have around one year still to go. This is not bad news, however. While waiting for a game you’re excited about is tough, taking as much time as necessary to ensure the best possible final product usually pays off when it’s all said and done.

Continue reading to read CD Projekt RED’s announcement and reasons for the decision.
