Sir Patrick Stewart, best known for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, married his longtime girlfriend Sunny Ozell in a ceremony officiated by the actor’s X-Men co-star, Sir Ian McKellen.

The 73-year-old Stewart took to Twitter on September 8, 2013 to break the news of his nuptials, posting “Yes, married” along with a photo of himself with his new bride, smiling and buried neck-deep in a multicolored ball pit.

McKellen, who previously performed a civil partnership for two men, posted today to his Facebook page “I did my part,” along with a photo of himself holding up a certificate and a black t-shirt with the words “Minister” on it. Back in March, the actor revealed his role in Stewart’s wedding plans.

Stewart has been with Ozell, the 35-year-old jazz singer and songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York, since 2009.

Here’s what Stewart posted to his official Twitter page, @SirPatStew, today, which happens to also be the 47th anniversary of Star Trek. I imagine them yelling “Bazinga!”
