Edgar Wright, who will be directing and co-writing the upcoming Ant-Man movie for Marvel for a 2015 release, made a quick blog post this morning featuring a single word and image that is sure to cause some major conversation over where the plot of the movie will be going and which character we may see don the Ant-Man costume.
While Paul Rudd has been officially cast as Ant-Man, there has been no official announcement as to which man-behind-the-mask Rudd will play. IMDB currently has Rudd tagged as “Hank Pym / Ant-Man,” and most news sites have also attributed Rudd as playing Pym, but Wright’s update may just change that.
Wright post the singular word “Homework” followed by an image taken from an episode of the animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The episode in question is “To Steal an Ant-Man” and includes future Ant-Man Scott Lang who steals the Ant-Man equipment from Hank Pym and uses it to commit crimes.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, has previously called the upcoming Ant-Man film a “heist film” and Wright’s use of the image certainly helps to propel that idea forward. The question remains, just who will be stealing from whom? Could we see an amalgamation of both Pym and Lang into a singular character that Rudd will play? Could Rudd actually play Scott Lang, while a currently unknown actor plays Pym or vice versa? Let the speculation begin!
Ant-Man, which will launch Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is currently scheduled to open July 31st, 2015.
