Marvel Studios’ television productions on Disney+ will be far more connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than any of the other shows that came before it. That’s because most of the A-listers will be headlining these shows. One that is of particular interest is Hawkeye, which will draw from Matt Fraction and David Aja’s series of the same name. In it, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) forges a partnership with Kate Bishop, and together they fight for justice. And now, Marvel may have found their Bishop.
New reports confirm that an offer has been made to Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, True Grit, Bumblebee) to play the role of the young archer who, in the comics, eventually takes up the role of Hawkeye. More on the report below.
While an offer has been made to the actor, there is no confirmation that she has taken on the job. Of course, Marvel Studios has a reputation of attracting some of the biggest stars to their projects.
Kate can be described as highly confident and very outspoken, never one to let authority push her around. She despises those who use their power to take advantage of others. But despite all of that roughness, she is also lighthearted and funny. This only gives her multiple layers and adds to her personality. This is a great role for Steinfeld, who is absolutely no stranger to playing a wide range of diverse roles. Edge of Seventeen showed that she can be razor-sharp funny while also being vulnerable and in need of affirmation at such a young age.
So it will be interesting to see whether or not Kate Bishop will move up to the big leagues and become a member of the Avengers. That could be the plan. Or maybe Marvel will stay true to Bishop’s arc and have her join the Young Avengers, where she will team up with heroes like America Chavez. Of course, that is just speculation on my part.
Here’s the official plot synopsis of Fraction and Aja’s comic series from Amazon:
The breakout star of this summer’s blockbuster Avengers film, Clint Barton – aka the self-made hero Hawkeye – fights for justice! With ex-Young Avenger Kate Bishop by his side, he’s out to prove himself as one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! SHIELD recruits Clint to intercept a packet of incriminating evidence – before he becomes the most wanted man in the world.
Jonathan Igla (Mad Men) will write and executive produce Hawkeye, which is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.
