Kevin Feige Header

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the man who brought us from Iron Man all the way to Avengers: Endgame, has received a major promotion.

New reports confirm that he will be moved up the ladder all the way to Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment. This means that he will oversee the company’s film, television, and publishing titles. That’s quite a lot of responsibility, especially when he’s got some other projects across the Disney office. More on the report below.

Deadline was the first to report on the news. Feige was already overseeing all film projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has since expanded over to a number of television series coming to Disney+ like Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, What If…? and Hawkeye, as well as new additions like Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moonknight. With this promotion, Feige will now oversee those television productions and future ones as well. Additionally, all of the company’s key creative executives across film and TV will now report to him. The deal itself is expected to be finalized within a week.

It will be interesting to see what will happen to other Marvel Television shows like Hulu’s The Runaways. But just because Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming to a close, and all of Marvel’s Netflix shows have been given the axe, doesn’t mean that writer and Executive Vice President and Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb doesn’t have any content left. Other Marvel Television titles include M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler, and Howard the Duck animated series. All four will be seen together in the team-up special Marvel’s The Offenders.

This new deal should also dispel those widespread rumors that Feige will be replacing Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy. And who knows, maybe a Feige-produced Star Wars film could help restore some of that lost reputation.

Feige will continue to report to Walt Disney Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer Alan Horn and Co-Chairman Alan Bergman. But Feige’s responsibilities don’t just stop at film and TV. He will also be overseeing publishing creative/editorial content. Deadline adds that Dan Buckley will continue in his role as Marvel Entertainment President, and Ike Perlmutter will remain Chairman. With Perlmutter out of the way, Feige is free to make a very diverse and inclusive Marvel universe. Something which Perlmutter seemed to abhor.

Of course, we cannot forget how Feige got this promotion. He first made a film about a billionaire playboy philanthropist who wears a suit of armor. It then kicked off the ambitious plans to make a shared universe in which many superheroes can co-exist and save the world from certain destruction. Not only that, he was able to reach across the aisle and get Sony, a rival studio, to share Spider-Man. And he’s always been the frontman during all of the major Marvel panels at the San Diego Comic-Con and D23 Expo.
