Sony Pictures

Given how much news outlets and movie blogs covered the Sony hacking scandal, it isn’t entirely surprising that it will be the subject of a new documentary from Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, the duo who brought us The Square – Netflix’s Emmy winning documentary that centered on the political uprising in Egypt in 2011. The scandal exposed the inner workings of the studio leaking information on productions of films like Annie and Aloha, while also leaking that former Sony Pictures CEO Amy Pascal approached Marvel to share Spider-Man. The hack also revealed Pascal’s very embarrassing e-mails, some of which mocked President Obama.

According to a new report, the documentary won’t focus on the hacks on Sony entirely, instead it will be used as an example to show how cyberattacks have evolved throughout the years. More on the story below.

Golden Globes 2015 Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader

The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony aired live on Sunday night, January 11, 2015, from Beverly Hills, CA, where we saw Richard Linklater’s Boyhood dominate the film drama category and Michael Keaton and his latest film Birdman top the comedy film area, while in TV, Showtime’s The Affair, FX’s Fargo, and Amazon’s Transparent took home multiple Globes. (Check out the full list of 2015 Golden Globe winners here.)

The ceremony, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for their third and final time, had a lot of great moments – some funny, some poignant, some noteworthy. There was the hilarious opening by the hosts, another classic Benedict Cumberbatch photobomb, a lot of George Clooney love, and much more, including several references to the recent threats on the entertainment community from North Korea and the murders at the Charlie Hebdo offices in France.

See below for some highlights from the 2015 Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

Idris Elba

The idea of Luthor star Idris Elba becoming the first black James Bond has been floating around for a few years now. In 2012, the actor was reportedly talking with franchise producers about taking over for current 007 Daniel Craig, who’ll finish his run as the British Secret Service agent with Bond 25 after 2015’s Spectre. Then, in September, during a Reddit AMA, the British actor said that if the role was offered to him, he’d take it: “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely.”

After the Sony hacking, emails were leaked earlier this month that revealed that Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal was interested in Elba for the franchise, reportedly writing, “Idris should be the next bond.”

Obama: Sony Made A Mistake Not Releasing ‘The Interview’; Studio Responds

The Interview

Sony Pictures currently has no plans on releasing The Interview in any format. But this is not just about the studio canceling the release of a movie; the current situation in Hollywood has gained international attention. U.S. Intelligence confirmed that the hackers who broke into the studio’s computer network, leaking emails and acquiring confidential and personal data, were the North Koreans. Though NATO applauded Sony for pulling the film’s release for the safety of audiences after the hackers threatened “9/11-style attacks” on any theaters showing the film, celebrities and a majority of moviegoers were displeased with the decision. Many say that this is an attack on our freedom of speech and that it sends a message that the U.S. is willing to let foreign tyrants dictate to and censor us.

In his final press conference of 2014, President Barack Obama talked about the recent controversy, saying that Sony “made a mistake” not releasing James Franco and Seth Rogen‘s political comedy, which involves a plot to assassinate the current North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Meanwhile, the studio has pulled all promotions of the film, trailers, clips, posters, and banners after the hackers made a new threat.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in 21 Jump Street.

According to the Wall Street Journal, leaked e-mails out of Sony Pictures have revealed plans for a potential crossover between two unlikely franchises of theirs, 21 Jump Street and Men in Black.

That’s right, we could just see Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum discovering the secret world of aliens living among us in 23 Jump Street (which will likely be titled something else if this actually happens). The e-mails also make it clear that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones wouldn’t be starring in the movie, though smaller cameo appearances aren’t ruled out.
