Brandon Lee in The Crow

Getting a remake of The Crow up and moving has not been an easy task, with multiple stars and directors attached over the years. But that doesn’t appear to be slowing down the effort to make it happen.

It’s being reported that a new actor is in talks for the lead role, and that actor is Game of Thrones and Aquaman star Jason Momoa.

NYCC 2015 Cosplay

“You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy…”

This weekend the most diverse collection of individuals on our planet have gathered together in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center for this year’s New York Comic-Con. And a group of our contributing GoDs — (Athena, Danny, Sarah, Max, Eve, and me, Dave3, to be exact) — are here to provide coverage of all the goings-on of NYCC 2015.

Among my favorite things to do is walk the convention floor, checking out all the goodies, meeting artists, creators, exhibitors, fans, and cosplayers. And of course, taking pictures along the way. And I spent the majority of today doing exactly that: perusing the aisles of the convention floor, taking in the sites, the sounds, and the smells of the ever-growing yearly Geekdom collective.

Today’s highlights include a run-in with the Baseball Furies from The Warriors, Princess Sparklefist herself Captain Marvel, and the amazingly amusing webslinger amalgam, Spider-Met!

Anyhoo, hit the jump and check out my photo galleries from today.

The Crow soundtrack title

Relativity’s remake of The Crow has just been one slow-going process. Between the actors and directors leaving, and the studio forced to declare bankruptcy, it is beginning to look like the remake is never going to happen, at least not under the Relativity banner. And now it is about to get worse.

Because of the studio’s financial woes, director Corin Hardy is reportedly just steps away from walking out on the project, which has forced producer Edward Pressman to make the necessary moves to protect the film from being considered as an asset for the studio to sell. More on the story below.

Brandon Lee in The Crow

Last week, Relativity was forced to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy after being hit with lawsuits and missing numerous payments. The studio was forced to lay off 75 of its 350 employees on staff, and now their troubles are leaking over to their films. Though they will release Masterminds and Kidnap, the future of their other films in pre-production is unknown, and will most likely be put on hold or sold to other studios and producers, until Relativity can figure a way out of their mess. One of the biggest films that was in pre-production was experiencing a bit of trouble itself. According to new reports, pre-production on The Crow reboot is now stalled.

More on this story below.

Andrea Riseborough in Oblivion

It’s being reported that Andrea Riseborough is in negotiations with Relativity Studios to join the cast of the long in development remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow.

Assuming a deal gets all worked out and ink meets page Riseborough will play a villain in the movie, a character named Top Dollar, who was played in the original movie by Michael Wincott. The character was the main villain in the first movie, but is not in the graphic novel the movies are based on by James O’Barr.

Jack Huston in Outlander

Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston has reportedly been cast in the remake of The Crow, according to Dread Central, who got the scoop directly from Crow creator James O’Barr.

The site caught up with O’Barr, who’s a consultant on the new film, this weekend at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention, where they asked him about who would be filling the lead role of Eric Draven aka The Crow.

Dracula Untold Luke Evans

It was only a month ago that Relativity Studios’ planned remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow got a new director in Corin Hardy, who replaced F. Javier Gutierrez, who’d been on the project since 2012. Many names had come up for the lead role, iconically portrayed by Brandon Lee, who died while filming the movie. The Avengers’ Tom Hiddleston and True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard were both considered at one time, until Dracula Untold star Luke Evans signed on for the role.

Now, Evans has reportedly left the film to pursue other projects, according to The Wrap, who added that Relativity declined to comment for their story.

Twenty Years Of The Crow panel: James O'Barr

20 years ago, The Crow burst into movie theaters, and 20 years later, it continues to fascinate us. The question has always been whether it would have been as successful had star Brandon Lee not died towards the end of production, due to a faulty gun prop. Lee played Eric Draven, a dead rocker bent on revenge after his girlfriend was raped and murdered while he watched and then he too was killed in Detroit on Devil’s Night, October 30th. The critically acclaimed movie, based on the James O’Barr comic book of the same name, achieved cult status…and some terrible sequels.

On Thursday night, O’Barr made his first appearance at New York Comic-Con at the panel “Twenty Years of “The Crow” with James O’Barr,” where he talks about the original film as well as the upcoming reboot.

C2E2 2014 Convention Sign header

It’s been awhile since I have gotten the chance to hit up one of the local conventions, 2 years since the last C2E2, and a few more till San Diego Comic-Con. But things worked out this year and I was able to head down to Chicago to check out one day of C2E2 on Saturday, April 26.

You can check out our photo gallery from the convention here below, including several of cosplayers, as well as cover of some of the panels, including the 20th anniversary of the film, The Crow.

The first thing that hit me as we arrived at the convention center is the fact that this Con has really grown in the past few years, and that meant being moved to the other side of the convention center. It may not be anywhere close to the scale of SDCC, but I have admit that it’s giving Wizard World a run for its money, although it has been a few years since my last visit as well, and hopefully I will check it out in August.
