Sony Pictures has just released the second trailer for Antoine Fuqua‘s The Magnificent Seven. The film is a reimagining of the 1960’s film of the same name, which also happened to be an adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 Japanese-language film Seven Samurai. Fuqua’s film stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia Rulfo, and Martin Sensmeier as our seven protagonists, each with their own special set of skills, who are hired by the residents of a small town in need of help ousting the nefarious industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard).

The Magnificent Seven Teaser Trailer

It’s been quite a while since we first heard rumors about actors like Tom Cruise and Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Costner starring in a remake of the 1960 western classic The Magnificent Seven for MGM. None of those rumors played out, but the remake still moved forward, and, as promised when we saw the first official images yesterday, a trailer for the movie has been released today.

Though it is technically a teaser trailer, our first look at the movie still runs over two minutes in length and shows plenty of footage. Click on over to the other side to check it out.

Last week, CinemaCon attendees were treated to the first look at the Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of The Magnificent Seven. The original film was released back in 1960, and starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach, and James Coburn. Such legendary actors gathering together for a great film, its reimagining would at least have to match that all-star caliber. And as such, it was announced that Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Byung-hun Lee would be starring in the film. With names like that, it looks like they got the job done on paper at least.

Now Sony has released the first official set of images of the cast in their western getups, and plans on releasing the first trailer tomorrow. Check out the images below.

James Horner

Last month fans of movies and movie music were shocked and devastated at the news that James Horner, the Academy Award winning composer behind the scores for movies like Braveheart, Titanic, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Aliens, and so many more, died after the plane he was piloting crashed.

Not only was Horner one of the best in the business at creating music for film, but he was also extremely passionate about what he did when the right project came along, as director Antoine Fuqua shared recently while remembering the late composer. Horner composed the score for Fuqua’s latest movie, the boxing drama Southpaw starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and according to Fuqua, he not only did it for free but paid his musicians out of his own pocket because he liked the movie that much. In addition to that, Fuqua was also stunned to discover that Horner had already secretly written the music for his next movie, the remake of The Magnificent Seven.

You can hear what Fuqua had to say in the audio clip below.

Peter Sarsgaard

MGM has found their primary villain for the upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven, which already features a great cast consisting of Denzel Washington (Glory, American Gangster), Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset, Boyhood), Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), Vincent D’Onofrio (Men In Black, Daredevil), Wagner Moura (Elysium, Elite Squad), Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Equalizer), and Matt Bomer (White Collar, Magic Mike).

The studio has chosen Peter Sarsgaard to be the film’s biggest bad guy, a robber baron named Bartholomew Bogue. But while they’ve found their primary antagonist, the movie is also losing a villain. Game of Thrones and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jason Momoa was also recently reported to be in negotiations for a role, but now it’s being said that the actor is no longer attached to the project. Whether his duties playing Aquaman conflicted with the shooting schedule, he simply decided he didn’t want the role, or something else caused the departure is not known for sure at the moment.

Jason Momoa Image

Another actor has entered into negotiations to join the cast of The Magnificent Seven, MGM’s upcoming remake of the 1960 western of the same name that starred Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen among many others.

Jason Momoa, who is best known for his roles in Stargate: Atlantis, Marcus Nispel’s Conan the Barbarian remake, and as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones (until he makes his debut as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice anyway), is the latest actor to become attached to the movie. Momoa would play one of the film’s villains if everything works out, though no details on who exactly that might be is not yet known. All that is known is that it’s not the primary antagonist, a role that has not been cast at the moment.

Ethan Hawke in Predestination

It’s being reported that Ethan Hawke has entered into final negotiations to star in the upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven for MGM.

The casting completes a reunion of the Academy Award winning 2001 drama Training Day, which also starred Denzel Washington, who won an Oscar for Best Actor for the role, and was directed by Antoine Fuqua—both of whom are also attached to Magnificent Seven. Hawke was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but lost to Jim Broadbent in Iris.

Chris Pratt in Jurassic World

With the massive success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and his upcoming role in Jurassic World, Chris Pratt is quite the popular commodity right now. Recently he was offered the role of Nathan Drake in the planned movie adaptation of the Uncharted video game series, but turned down the offer.

Now comes word that Pratt has entered into early negotiations to star in Magnificent Seven, MGM’s remake of the classic 1960 western directed by John Sturges and starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and Eli Wallach. If all works out Pratt would play a character named Farraday, and would join Denzel Washington on the cast.

Eli Wallach

Legendary Hollywood character and method actor Eli Wallach has died at the age of 98. The actor passed away in his New York home of natural causes.

Wallach is best known for his scene-stealing role as Tuco (the ugly) in Sergio Leone’s classic 1966 spaghetti western The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, and also as the primary antagonist in the 1960 Seven Samurai remake The Magnificent Seven, but those two performances were but a fraction of his incredible career.
