The Defenders

For those who haven’t watched any of Netflix’s solo Marvel outings, let’s do a little roll call. There’s “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen,” aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox). After that it’s the smart-ass detective otherwise known as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), the righteous ex-con. Then there’s the “Hero of Harlem,” or who we know as Luke Cage (Mike Colter). Finally, there’s the kid with a glowing fist aka Iron Fist (Finn Jones). These otherwise heroes of New York City have been defending the streets from one threat or another, and now after two years of build up, the pay off is finally coming to Netflix this summer in The Defenders.

The first trailer for the Marvel superhero ensemble has finally arrived. Together with the help of some friends like Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), and Stick (Scott Glenn), they will protect their streets from the mysterious Hand and a new villain played by Sigourney Weaver. Inhumans

Marvel Studios’ Phase Four would have introduced The Inhumans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it seemed like it was leading up to that when the group was introduced in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The news was confirmed by Marvel Television, Disney/ABC TelevisionGroup, and IMAX. That’s right, IMAX is involved in this. That’s because, the “first two episodes of Marvel Television’s new series “Marvel’s The Inhumans” — produced in conjunction with ABC Studios and filmed entirely with IMAX digital cameras — will run worldwide exclusively in IMAX for two weeks at the beginning of September 2017.” The series then moves to its regular season run on ABC. The deal marks the first time that IMAX is co-producing network television.

Marvel's The Punisher

It’s hard not to enjoy what Marvel has been offering on Netflix. Recently we’ve seen some trailers for Iron Fist, the fourth Marvel series following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, which arrives on the streaming platform early next year. That will be followed up by the ensemble series The Defenders, which sees all four titular standalone heroes unite to defeat a yet to be revealed villain, which is rumored to be The Hand.

While all of that is going on, Netflix and Marvel are currently working on The Punisher. At first, it was thought that the Daredevil spinoff series would be released sometime in 2018. But now, it has been confirmed that it will instead be released in 2017. Check out the full story below.

Squirrel Girl

Marvel Studio TV shows have suffered a few setbacks this past season. Agent Carter failed to get renewed for a third season despite a huge show of support from fans, and the spinoff series Marvel’s Most Wanted did not get picked up. With Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. moving on to its fourth season this fall, it’s hard to imagine that Marvel would not continue to grow their TV lineup.

But according to new reports, the studio will now move forward with a new series about the New Warriors featuring Squirrel Girl. More on the story below.

Chloe Bennet as Daisy "Skye" Johnson in Agents of SHIELD

Last year’s Marvel power split resulted in Kevin Feige assuming control over all things Marvel Studios and Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter at the mast of Marvel Entertainment. This split put an ever bigger rift between Marvel Studios and Marvel Television, who had promised its fans a cohesive universe among the properties seen on both the big and small screens. Now there are subtle narrative hints that the various television series make to the films, but the latter hardly seems to acknowledge their TV sisters. The most recent sign of trouble was when The Inhumans‘ release was pushed back indefinitely. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. had been using the characters as a device to move the narrative, but given the lack of harmony between the two, it was unlikely we would ever see the two unite in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films.

Now S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet, who plays Skye, is expressing her frustrations over Marvel Studios not acknowledging the TV universe, despite the claim that the MCU is a shared universe. More on the story below.
